The Lacey Act

The Lacey Act of 1900 is a conservation law signed by President McKinley on May 25th, 1900 which has been amended several times into its current form. It was passed as a response to illegal commercial hunting threatening many game species in the United States. The latest major addition in 2008 extended its coverage to wood products. The revision makes it unlawful to import, export, transport, sell, receive, acquire, or purchase in interstate or foreign commerce any plant in violation of the laws of the United States, a State, an Indian tribe, or any foreign law that protects the plant.
